The Cradock Arms has been a part of the Everards estate since 1925. Local rumour has it that the Craddock family bought the pub from the Church. However, after a minor argument between the local church, it was agreed that the family could only have the pub if they removed one ‘d’ in order to remove any relationship to Cradock Church, hence the pub is only spelt with one ‘d,’ The Cradock. The Cradock Arms has recently benefitted from a major refurbishment throughout and we’re very proud to be able to give the pub back to the local community. Although the changes give a more modern and contemporary finish, we’ve retained the traditional features of the pub such as the splendid thatched roof and oak beams. As well as a complete re-decoration throughout the pub, there is an extended bar, a new patio area and we have introduced disabled facilities making it more accessible to the local community. We have a quiz Night every Tuesday from 7pm onwards that involves great prizes and lots of fun for the family! On a Wednesday we also have open mic night. At the Cradock Arms we offer a fantastic drinks range to suit all tastes including a selection of award winning hand pulled ales from local, national and micro breweries, a range of premium draft and bottled lagers, fine wines and premium spirits. This famous and historic pub and brewery in Shropshire has been the 'beating heart' of Bishop's Castle since 1642. Refurbished and enlarged, it still maintains the spirit of the original pub and is a welcome relief from so many of today’s modern 'theme pubs' as it still retains public bar, snug bar, lounge bar with the addition of a classy oak-framed, glass-sided dining room. The pub has a bustling, lively atmospheric pub created by the many charismatic locals who regard 'The Tuns' as their home from home. It serves a wondrous array of real ales from the adjoining brewery (XXX, 1642, Clerics Cure, Stout, Solstice, plus seasonal offerings.) It is unique in these days of super cooled lagers, in that 70% of all beer sales are real ales. A restored and characterful function room sees everything from live music - jazz to rock to classical - to line dancing, Morris dancing, film club and the local rugby club post match 'wind down!' In warmer weather, you might catch Morris dancing, live jazz or even a brass band playing in the courtyard or garden. The Bluebell Inn can be found in the picturesque, North Essex village of Hempstead, on the B1054 between the historic town of Saffron Walden and the village of Steeple Bumpstead, close to the Suffolk border. The Bluebell is a family run business offering a good selection of real ales, fine wines and traditional home cooked food. The Stokes family took over The Bluebell after being closed for 18 months. The premises were completely refurbished and re-opened in May 2003. We offer the ambience and simplicity of a traditional English Country Pub. As well as a spacious bar, we have a separate dining room, cosy snug and garden room, each room with welcoming log fires in the winter. Outside there are 3 patio areas on different levels, leading to spacious gardens with a fenced children’s play area and an ample car park. There is a grassed area to the front of the pub with more picnic tables and further off road parking. We are able to offer facilities for private parties, birthdays, weddings etc. social events or business meetings. Our dining room seats up to 40 people. For a smaller gathering our garden room can seat between 10 and 20. For a larger event there is space for a marquee in the garden. We offer full catering facilities from breakfast, morning coffee and light lunches to afternoon teas, buffets or a full evening dinner. The Grade II-listed Bluebell Inn has a history which lives up to its charming and rustic appearance. Parts having been laid down as early as the 16th Century, the inn is known to have served as the birthplace of the infamous Dick Turpin – notorious highway robber and accomplice of the Gregory Gang. The pub has been known under many guises over its centuries of history, from The Bell, The Rose and Crown, Dick Turpin’s Restaurant and finally the The Bluebell Inn. One Richard Turpin was baptised in the village of Hempstead on the 21 September 1705 and lived in this inn - where the music sessions are held!
