Sorry Head - Exeter

Sorry Head - Exeter
The Sorry Head is a modern freehouse pub in the heart of Exeter. We have any speciality drinks, including local ciders and ales, all at very reasonable prices.

We love music and hold an Open Mic every Tuesday and a Jam Night every Thursday. Pop in and see us.

A bit of pub history. The Horse & Dray has changed its name several times. From 1831 to 1921, it was known as the George & Dragon Brewery, one of eleven Exeter breweries around at the time.

Before that it was the Temeraire and from 1785 to 1799 it was the Royal Oak. Prior to 1831 on Whit Monday, various races were held, with the finishing line at the Temeraire.

The starting point for these races was The Victory Inn which used to stand in Sidwell Street. Outside the Horse & Dray the road runs from a dual carriageway into a normal roadway.

This was completed in the 1950's. The lower part of the old road can still be seen and is used to service the shops. A map of 1876 shows the George & Dragon to be in Ikenild Street with Blackboy Road starting at Kendall Buildings.
