The Black Lion is the oldest pub in Epping & is said to have links with the infamous highwayman Dick Turpin. Split into two separate bars the Black Lion remains almost unchanged from it's early years with its oak beams and two large open fireplaces. We also provide TV in both bars to cover all important sporting events and a function room which provides live bands and is available for functions and parties.

The Black Lion has two bars, the Saloon Bar where you can enjoy lunch and a quiet pint by the large open fire in winter and the Public Bar which has plenty of space for enjoying one of our hot or cold meals or just watching TV. Our beer garden is always available and when the weather cools, you can have a drink in our heated rear patio area.

As well as the usual pub snacks, we provide hot and cold food before 5pm. We also cater for events or parties on request and can provide a full buffet meal to your specific requirements.

The Black lion showcases some of the best live music in and around Essex. It is quickly establishing a reputation as Epping's premier location for live music. The Black Lion Epping has a heated, air conditioned hall which is ideal for local clubs or classes to hire. We can provide hot and cold soft drinks and snacks if required. For a limited period, any club hiring our hall on a regular basis will get free promotion on this page and their own section of the website to use for their club
