Band Room - Farndale Kirkbymoorside

Hi there and welcome to The Band Room on the North York Moors - variously described as 'The greatest small venue on Earth' (The Handsome Family), 'The Shed that Rocks' (The Guardian), 'England's tiniest major venue' (The Yorkshire Post) and 'a corrugated iron shed in the middle of nowhere' (We said that). It's all true...
Four years after her show here in 2006 Cerys Matthews reminisced on BBC Radio 6: "It's a very special place"...Willy Mason said: "Wow - this is great!"...Louisiana Cajun legend Marc Savoy declared: "The Band Room was my favourite show!"...while Howe Gelb revealed, exclusively: "It's got a great vibe...and werewolves too..." You can read reviews of some of our shows here in The Guardian and The Press and see videos - lo-fi, naturally - of some of them here on The Band Room.
Located in the heart of the stunning North York Moors National Park The Band Room is like no other venue you'll ever stumble upon.
Built for the Farndale Silver Band in the 1920s this 100-capacity wooden room 35 miles north of York has got to be one of the best 'intimate' gigs in the whole of England, with its crystalline-pure acoustics, magical atmosphere and unpretentious homespun vibe (we don't sell alcohol - but you're welcome to bring your own).
Shows are few and sometimes far between while we wait for our principal targets to become available - so we try to make every show count. There are no ordinary acts, no perfunctory gigs, no fillers. We have no spring or autumn schedule to cobble together. Life's too short. Everyone who plays here has released at least one critically-acclaimed CD and before we book anyone we always ask the same question: are they good enough to play here?
If the triple and quadruple encores are anything to go by, the acts respond with what can't be far short of career-best performances. Indeed, many big Alt.country | Americana | Folk | Rock | Roots stars have fallen in love with The Band Room.
